DENVER (KDVR) — Thousands are still without power Saturday night in Colorado after Friday night’s heavy snow and many will have to wait until tomorrow for it to come back on.
“I just went to bed thinking we’d have power in the morning,” said Englewood resident Andrew Pierce.
Pierce said the power went out in his apartment complex around 7 p.m. on Friday. A cold night was made even worse in the morning when he found out his car was locked inside the building’s garage that couldn’t be opened.
“I actually had to call out from work today and wasn’t able to make it in so definitely very frustrating,” said Pierce.
Another resident of the building, Rich Slivka, spoke on their time without power.
“All the hallways are dark. Really dark,” said Slivka.
While he and his wife headed out to walk the dog, he was thankful someone propped the front door open.
“All the doors were also locked to the building. So if you went outside, you couldn’t get back in,” said Slivka.
Xcel Energy trucks were all over Englewood on Saturday afternoon, including cleaning up a power pole that fell into someone’s yard. They said the heavy, wet snow has made restoration a challenge.
“The roads have been tough to navigate here today and some of the snow accumulation around the Denver metro area has made it a challenge to get to some of our facilities,” said Andrew Holden, Community Relations Director for Xcel Energy Colorado.
With conditions clearing and dozens of crews activated around the state, Xcel felt confident power would be back for everyone impacted by Sunday night.
“Thank you to our community for their patience and their understanding as we work through this together,” said Holden.
