ROLLA, Mo. — Flooding is closing a Missouri highway again after soaking rains Tuesday morning. The Missouri State Highway Patrol says that Interstate 44 is closed from Rolla to Fort Leonard Wood. Traffic is backed up for miles in the area.

A married couple in their 70s drowned early on Tuesday morning during flash flooding in Wright County, Missouri. The area is located south of today’s highway closure. They attempted to swim to safety but did not survive. Two other vehicles were also swept away in the incident, though those occupants managed to survive.
Two people died in St. Louis County flooding on Tuesday. A woman was found in her SUV in Gravois Creek, and a man was discovered later that day in the same creek. The Lemay Fire Protection District rescued 10 others, while a separate incident in Iron County claimed the life of a 66-year-old man whose car was swept off a flooded bridge.
