ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Hundreds of Lobo fans crowded into the Pit today to support their team as they found out who they will play in the first round of the NCAA tournament. “I’m really happy ’cause we obviously worked really hard for this, and we obviously made it last year,” said Cam, a young Lobo Men’s Basketball fan.
“We’re feeling good about the Lobos hopes this year with winning the Mountain West Conference regular season championship,” said Andrew Mcauley, another Lobo Men’s Basketball fan.
The selection comes on the heels of a tough loss against Boise State. Though they lost to them in the conference tournament semi-final on Friday, they posted their best Mountain West Conference record to date. Fans are hopeful they’ll take that success into the tournament.
“I like the intensity we bring,” Cam said. “We actually have a lot of really good players. I like how we play.”
“We made it this far, so we’re excited to be here,” said Lobo Men’s Basketball fan Cody Runninghawk. “You have to support our Lobos.”
Last year, the Lobos lost in the first round against Clemson, in their first appearance in the “Big Dance” since 2014. Fans think they might have a chance to make it further this year.
“We can make it past the first round, and maybe make the Sweet 16 finally,” Mcauley said.
The Lobos will play against Marquette in their first game of the tournament this week.
