GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — An explosion has been reported at a Grand Junction defense contractor on Winters Avenue.
Grand Junction Fire Department responded to Valor Tactical Innovation, 1328 Winters Ave., arriving on scene around 4:04 p.m.
Valor Tactical Innovation creates small explosive loads that shoot flares out of fighter jets.
Firefighters found light smoke in the lobby after arriving to the scene. GJFD determined that a small quantity of combustible powder ignited inside a climate-controlled booth where materials were being mixed, the press release said.
GJFD Public Information Officer Dirk Clingman told WesternSlopeNow there was one worker suffered a burn to the back of the hand and is currently being treated.
Clingman said the worker was inside of a climate-controlled booth. The explosion did not reach outside the booth, he added.
Fire crews found that no active fire remained because of the explosion. A member of the Grand Junction Police Department bomb squad assisted at the scene.
The origin and cause of the explosion are under investigation. No additional hazards have been reported currently.
