ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – State Championship Saturday featured stellar cross country races at Albuquerque Academy this year. Champions from every high school classification in New Mexico were crowned on Saturday.
In the 5a Boys Championship race, Corbin Combs of Organ Mountain beat out Charlie Vause of Rio Rancho for the individual title, But overall Rio Rancho would place first in the team standings with Organ Mountain in 2nd and Cleveland in 3rd.
The Class 5A Girls Championship race would be won in convincing fashion as defending state champion and now Eldorado high school freshman, Gianna Rahmer won the title with a dominant victory. Rahmer beat 2nd place by over a minute, a champion as an 8th grader and now a 9th grader, Rahmer was most excited to see her team place first overall.
“It was so much fin, I was so excited before hand and I knew we came in here with a chance to do amazing and I am just so so incredibly proud as where we started as a team to where we are now,” said Gianna Rahmer. Eldorado placed first, Rio Rancho was 2nd, and Cleveland finished in 3rd.
