NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — The long-awaited demolition of the abandoned Six Flags in New Orleans has been halted.
According to the City of New Orleans’ permitting website, the demolition was halted because the contractor hired for the project reportedly did not have the proper licensing for rigging and dismantling.
Permitting department officials report the permit should have been issued on Oct. 2.
“On 11/6/2024 informed thst the applicant does not have the proper licensing classification which should include dismantling and rigging. STOP WORK ORDER ISSUED 11/7/2024.”
It is unknown when the demolition will restart but once restarted, the abandoned site will be redeveloped by Developer Troy Henry and the company Bayou Phoenix.
The company is expected to transform the site into a multi-purpose facility with sports fields, hotels and restaurants and a water park.
A breakdown of prices for the overall project notes that the demolition would cost $449,80 with an estimated completion time of five years.
The expected cost of the project is $3 million.
