Berlin (dpa) – After three years, Easter will see the final nationwide coronavirus regulations under the Infection Protection Act end in Germany. As of this Saturday, the requirement for visitors to doctor’s surgeries, hospitals and care homes to wear a mask will be lifted. The numerous mask requirements that had previously applied, for example in shops, buses and trains, had already been already lifted some time ago. At the beginning of March 2023, the testing requirements for visits to hospitals or care homes had also expired. Hospital operators and doctors can still require visitors to wear a mask according to their own house rules.
With the end of the final measures, Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach considers the coronavirus crisis to be over. If one looks at the situation with regard to virus variants, vaccinations and hospitalisations, which still occur, one can say that the pandemic has come to an end in Germany, said Lauterbach. “We have successfully overcome the pandemic in Germany, and have done so with a good track record.”
