FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The City of Springfield will host a public information session for the ongoing Galloway Street Widening Project 4:30 – 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19 at All Saints Anglican Church, 2751 E. Galloway Street. City staff will provide an update on construction and information on upcoming lane closures and other traffic impacts.
The Galloway Street Widening Project involves the widening of Galloway Street to three lanes between Luster and Lone Pine avenues, improving safety for traffic and pedestrians along Galloway Street. Improvements will include a new center turn lane, traffic calming roundabout intersections at Luster Avenue and at Lone Pine Avenue and upgraded stormwater infrastructure and improved drainage along Luster Avenue. The project will provide improved connectivity for all roadway users to Sequiota Park, the Galloway Greenway Trail and Galloway-area businesses, with a new multi-use path along the north side of Galloway Street and new sidewalk on the south side of the roadway.
The public is invited to come and go as their schedules allow. A brief presentation by City staff will be provided at 5:15 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with City staff and ask questions.
“This will be the third public meeting we’ve hosted for this project as we’ve continued our efforts to keep residents, business and property owners in the area informed,” explains Public Works Project Manager Nicholas Edelman. “Now that we have a contractor on board and we’re moving quickly through the first stages of the project, we need to update residents on the construction schedule and what type of closures they can expect to see as construction progresses.”
The Galloway Street Widening Project ranked as the #2 priority project in City-wide transportation surveys conducted in 2015 and 2018. The design and partial right-of-way phases were completed in the 2016 ¼-cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax renewal cycle. Springfield voters again showed support by approving funding for the construction of the widening in the 2019 renewal cycle of the 1/-4 cent sales tax.
The project is estimated to cost $6.5 million and will be funded through the City’s ¼-cent Capital Improvement Sales Tax as well as $1.5 million (30%) from the Governor’s Transportation Cost Share Program.
