It’s been a long two years since Citadel’s first, short season streamed on Amazon Prime Video and anyone who’s been desperate for Season 2 is unfortunately going to have wait even longer. Originally scheduled to stream in Fall 2025, “Citadel” Season 2 will instead premiere in Spring 2026 according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The delay doesn’t just impact “Citadel” either. All “Citadel” spinoffs have been put on hold. “Citadel” has two spinoffs so far: the Italian-based “Citadel: Diana” the Indian series “Citadel: Honey Bunny.” More spinoffs were in development for series set in Mexico and Spain.

THR reports that the reason for the delay is simple – Amazon MGM executives do not like what they’ve seen of the season. The extra time will presumably be used to fix whatever about the season executives are unhappy with.
“Citadel” has already been a massive expense for Amazon. The ambitious concept it was to have a main English language series with multiple spinoffs based in different parts of the globe. All on its own, according to TVLine, the first six-episode season of “Citadel” cost $300 million. For all of that money, it received mixed reviews from critics and didn’t reach the Nielsen Top 10 chart until its Season 1 finale. It begs the question of whether Amazon should keep moving forward with the franchise or cut its losses.
“Citadel” stars Richard Madden as Mason Kane/Kyle Conroy, a Citadel agent whose memory is erased. His lover and partner is Nadian Sinh/Charlotte Vernon, played by Priyanka Chopra, whose memory has also been toyed with. Their Citadel boss is Bernie Orlick, played by Stanley Tucci.
Just like SHIELD has its Hydra, Citadel has its shadowy rival Manticore. Shortly after “Citadel” begins, it’s discovered that Manticore has just about dismantled Manticore across the globe.
Anthony and Joe Russo, famous for directing a number of Marvel blockbusters including the upcoming “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” were recruited to help bring “Citadel together. Whether it’s coincidence or not, it’s difficult to not see similarities between “Citadel” and the Russo brothers directed “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” The memory-wiped secret agents, the good guy secret agency swallowed whole by the bad guy secret agency – all the ingredients are there, minus a guy with a shield.
“Citadel,” “Citadel: Diana,” and “Citadel: Honey Bunny” are all available to stream on Amazon Prime.
