(KRON) – San Francisco 49er running back Christian McCaffrey is set to miss the next four games due to calf soreness and Achilles tendinitis, according to ESPN.
The 49ers placed McCaffrey on the Injured Reserve List on Saturday.
San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said in a press conference on Friday that the reigning Offensive Player of the Year does not need a procedure for his injuries.
McCaffery has not played this season. Running back Jordan Mason took McCaffery’s spot in the first two games of the season, including Monday Night Football’s game against the New York Jets. Mason finished with 28 carries for 147 yards and a touchdown.
McCaffery may be eligible to return to the field in time for the matchup against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6. The running back will miss games against the Los Angeles Rams, New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals.
