LAPLACE, La. (WGNO) — A LaPlace man was arrested on Thursday after a child allegedly handed out drug-laced candies at a local school.
According to the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office, the East St. John Preparatory Academy in LaPlace reported to deputies that, on Dec. 5, four children, which consisted of a 12-year-old, an 11-year-old and two 10-year-olds, were under the influence of THC edibles, and one of them had been sent to a local hospital.
Following an investigation, detectives reportedly discovered that one of the children had taken a pack of THC edibles from their parent/guardian and brought them to school before handing them out to other students.
Detectives then searched the student’s home, located in the 200 block of Magnolia Avenue, and found over 1,300 grams of THC edibles, multiple methamphetamine tablets and drug paraphernalia.
As a result of the search, Kerry Clofer was arrested and charged with the following crimes:
- Possession with the intent to distribute a schedule I (marijuana.)
- Possession of a schedule II (methamphetamine.)
- Possession of drug paraphernalia.
- Cruelty to a juvenile.
His bond is set at $14,000.
