Over 450 community leaders, elected officials and business professionals gathered for the annual State of Clayton County Address — the first address from Clayton Chairwoman Alieka Anderson-Henry.
Taking place at the Georgia International Convention Center, Anderson-Henry took to the stage and kicked off her speech by reflecting on the progress Clayton County made in the past year.
Among the 2024 achievements highlighted by the Clayton chairwoman included the procurement of a $100,000 Community Development Block Grant for corridor and gateway beautification, the establishment of the Moving Clayton Forward Initiative (a 20-year vision for development in the county), along with securing funding for affordable housing initiatives.
“We have faced challenges that tested our resilience and unity,” said Chairwoman Anderson-Henry. “Yet, in the face of adversity, we have come together as a community, demonstrating our strength and commitment to one another.”
Anderson-Henry went on to recognize professionals in the public safety sector and their accomplishments, such as breaking ground on a new $11 million Fire & Emergency Services headquarters, as well as using tax funding to successfully relocate two fire stations in Clayton County.
“Each of these projects underscores our county’s dedication to investing in the future, prioritizing safety, and ensuring our first responders have the resources and facilities they need to succeed,” said Anderson-Henry.
The county official concluded her speech by looking ahead to the future, with plans to address goals like “further enhancing public safety,” “promoting economic development” and “addressing the needs of the county’s most vulnerable populations.”
“Together, we can create initiatives that not only support our current residents but also attract new families and businesses to Clayton County,” said Anderson-Henry.
