(KRON) – An alleged carjacker was arrested after driving in the wrong direction on a highway on Friday, according to the Santa Rosa Police Department.
Witnesses to a carjacking near the intersection of Santa Rosa Avenue and Third Street contacted the Santa Rosa PD to report the crime. According to Santa Rosa PD, witnesses said the suspect was a man. The victim was able to speak with the dispatcher after the carjacking.
The victim informed the dispatcher the suspect jumped into her silver Honda Odyssey minivan while she was at a red light. The suspect told her to drive. The victim then got out of her car and ran to the sidewalk. The suspect, later identified as Ryan Humphreys, reportedly hopped into the driver’s seat and took off.
At 8:06 p.m. Santa Rosa police officers responded to the scene.
Police said dispatchers later received multiple calls regarding a silver minivan driving the wrong way northbound on Highway 101.
The minivan was stopped by police on Highway 101 near the Hearn offramp. Humphreys fled from the minivan but was apprehended. After the victim confirmed Humphreys was the suspect, he was arrested.
Police said while Humphreys was joyriding, he side-swiped an uninvolved car on Santa Rosa Avenue.
Humphreys was booked into the Sonoma County Jail for suspicion of carjacking and resisting arrest.
