In tribute to all veterans of the armed services, the city of Brookhaven will host its first Veterans Day ceremony at 9 a.m. on Nov. 11 at Langford Park.
Opened in 2023, Langford Park at 1174 Pine Grove Ave. is a tribute to Robert C. “Bob” Langford, a local war hero who died in Vietnam half a century ago. The land once belonged to the Langford family, and is now dedicated to members of the armed services who lost their lives in combat.
The ceremony will feature a formal presentation of colors by the Brookhaven Police Honor Guard, a tribute to veterans, and activities for children.
“Those who choose to defend our country, whether in times of peace or struggle, make tremendous sacrifices and are generally under-appreciated,” said District 3 Councilmember Madeliene Simmons. “It is important to remember our veterans for the work they do and the services they have rendered to protect our freedoms at home and abroad.”
Mayor John Park is asking Brookhaven residents to thank veteran for “protecting our civil liberties and freedom.”
“We must never forget the sacrifices that brave men and women have made to preserve our peace, and maintain our safety and way of life,” said Park. “Our veterans have earned our respect every day of the year, but especially on Veterans Day.”
