BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – School administrators and local leaders alike are still celebrating after the ribbon was cut on the new Bowling Green High School Career and Technical Education building on Wednesday.
Gov. Andy Beshear stopped by to cut the ribbon and deliver remarks about the opening of the new influential building. The building will host opportunities for students to learn hands on technical skills that they could apply to the work force immediately after high school or while they are pursuing a two- or four-year degree.
One teacher says this new building will greatly help the kids learn skills and find a niche after high school.
“We had kind of a disadvantage of just having a classroom. Now I’m able to have a actual shop where I have my industry partners able to donate, and we can kind of tailor and curtail with what type of training they want,” said Industrial Maintenance teacher David Loveland.
Loveland mentioned the incredible increase in interest from students over the course of nearly a decade. The program was first home to only three students, now, nearly 80 students are learning these valuable skills.
There was also an exciting announcement made as the program will continue to expand further. Starting in the new school year, the program will include an HVAC program, adding new skills to give kids more options to chose from after exiting high school.
