The guest appearance on the talk show comes on the heels of the mayor’s State of the City Address last week.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu will be a guest on “The Daily Show” Tuesday night, her office announced.
The late night appearance follows Wu’s delivery of her State of the City Address last week, during which she highlighted the city’s accomplishments and offered sharp words of defiance to the Trump administration, riding the wave of local goodwill she earned after testifying before Congress earlier this month.
Throughout her speech Wednesday, Wu called Boston a family, stressing the city’s history of leading, standing up to pressure, and finding “strength in each other.”
“We will defend the people we love with all that we’ve got,” she said. “I couldn’t ask for more in a family. God bless our City, God bless our people, and God save whoever messes with Boston.”
Wu’s appearance on the “The Daily Show” will also mark her first public event since President Donald Trump’s “border czar” Tom Homan boasted on Monday that he followed through on a promise to “bring hell” to the city with what ICE called an “enhanced operation.” Homan said at least 370 people in and around Boston were arrested between March 18 and 23 by federal agents and called out Wu and Gov. Maura Healey by name.
Homan previously attacked Wu after the mayor said she intended to abide by the Boston Trust Act and not have local authorities help with mass deportations. The mayor addressed Homan during her congressional testimony, saying “shame on him for lying about my city.”
In a statement on Monday, a spokesperson for the Wu administration urged ICE to release more information about the recent arrests.
“Boston is the safest major city in the country, and we partner with all levels of law enforcement to prevent crime and hold perpetrators accountable,” the statement read. “Given that we have no information on these arrests, we cannot confirm how many took place within Boston police jurisdiction or in other cities, and we cannot confirm whether every individual was lawfully detained.”
Wu isn’t the only Massachusetts politician to make high-profile media appearances in recent weeks. Gov. Maura Healey gave a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times earlier this month andcontinued to make her case against Trump with an appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.”
Wu’s appearance also comes as the mayor seeks reelection to a second term, facing, most notably, a challenge from longtime philanthropist Josh Kraft.
“The Daily Show” will air on Comedy Central Tuesday night.
