FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – While snow lovers continue to wait for a big snowstorm, we’re here to remind you it can happen this time of the year, even after spring officially arrives…
There has been very little snowfall so far this March though, as only three-tenths of an inch of snow has been recorded in Fort Wayne. This is behind last year’s seven-tenths of an inch total and well behind our 4.6 inch monthly average.

The snow that has accumulated in big numbers this March has been off to our north, where snow is still on the ground on March 25th.

It has now been a record-extending 790 days since our last three inch or more snowfall in Fort Wayne.

12 years ago though, we were digging out from a big March snowstorm! Over the course of March 24th and 25th, 2013, as much as 13 inches of snow fell in our area, with the highest totals being recorded in our southern counties.

Hartford City was where the 13 inch two day total was seen, with Marion and Berne seeing double digit totals. Bluffton, Van Wert, and Huntington also saw over eight inches of snow. Here at the Fort Wayne International Airport, we picked up 5.6 inches of snow.

Our average last measurable snowfall comes in early April, so we are quickly approaching the end of the snow season. It will be awhile until any snow falls again though, as we’re tracking warmer air later this week into the weekend. Visit our WANE 15 Forecast Page for the details.
