MISHIMA, Japan – The University of Hawai’i men’s golf team posted a 3-under 285 in the final round of the Pan Pacific Super League Tournament Friday to finish in third place in the 15-team field.
The Rainbow Warriors vaulted up the leaderboard with the second-best score on the day and three team members carding under-par scores. Tyler Ogawa and James Whitworth each shot 2-under 70 to finish tied for 13th (226) and tied for 17th (227), respectively.
Josh Hayashida also posted red figures with a 1-under 71 to finish 12-over 228 and a tie for 20th place. Rounding out the team were Dane Watanabe (74=229, t-23rd) and Garrett Takeuchi (75=231; t-30th).
Nihon University ran away with the team title with a final round 271 to finish 18-under 846 for the three-day tournament. Waseda University was runner-up at 14-over 878. Nihon’s Syoon Kobayashi captured medalist honors at 8-under 208.
The Rainbow Warriors return to the states to compete in the Alister MacKenzie Invitational, Oct. 7-8 in Fairfax, Calif.
