ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman expressed his frustration over the lack of juvenile crime bills passed in this year’s legislative session. “When we had the opportunity, we could’ve done something about it! And all this fell on deaf ears in the legislature so I’m a little passionate and I’m a little bit pissed off. I am. Because we have to update this,” said Bregman.
During this year’s 60-day legislative session, Bregman tried to push several bills aimed at addressing juvenile crime, but all the bills failed. At Wednesday’s Community Policing Council, Bregman reiterated his frustrations and urged parents to be more aware of what their kids are doing. “Parents, grandparents, and guardians of kids these days. Know what’s in their backpack when they go to school, know what’s in their car. It’s a zero tolerance policy for guns in school, and I don’t care if you’re 14 or 40, you bring a gun on campus, you’re being taken to jail,” said Bregman.
The next Community Policing Meeting is on May 7th.
