New York (dpa) – Germany’s Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has interpreted the fact that the great majority of the UN General Assembly supports a Russian withdrawal from Ukraine as an important signal. In New York, following a vote on the resolution to mark the anniversary of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, she said that the result showed that “Russia, on its war path, is just as isolated as it was a year ago”. Putin had begun the war on 24 February 2022.
“The world wants peace. The countries of this world have made this clear today at the United Nations,” Baerbock said. “And we stand together against this breach of international law.” On Thursday, 141 of the 193 member states of the UN General Assembly voted for the resolution. Six states joined Russian in voting No, and there were 32 abstentions. The remaining states did not take part in the vote.
