National Grid has called off a plan to pay British households and businesses to reduce their electricity usage on Tuesday to fill a potential gap in supply.The company in charge of Britain’s electricity system had told energy suppliers, such as Eon and Octopus, whose customers have signed up to a voluntary programme to cut their consumption when called upon, to prepare for the first potential use of the new emergency scheme.
