The three Italians are in a field of 72 players, chosen from among the best in the world, which includes among others the English Lottie Woad, world number one and reigning champion, the Americans Anna Davis, who won in 2022, Rachel Heck and Gianna Clemente, the Korean Soomin Oh, the Swedes Nora Sundberg and Meja Ortengren, the Spanish Andrea Revuelta, Carla Bernat Escuder and Rocio Tejedo, the English Patience Rhodes, the Scotswoman Hannah Darling, the Irishwoman Beth Coulter and the Japanese Tsubasa Kajitani, hers the tournament in 2021. They are all, including the Italians, capable of guaranteeing a high-level show.
The event will be played in two phases on 54 medal holes. On April 2 and 3, the first 36 participants will be busy at the Champions Retreat Golf Club in Evans, then there will be a day off (April 4) in which all the competitors will play a round at Augusta National in Augusta. On April 5, the first 30 players in the rankings will finish the competition on the same course wanted by the legendary Bobby Jones.
Italy has always had representatives in the five previous editions and the invitations have rewarded not only the athletes, but it has also been a convincing recognition for the national movement that will be called once again to express its qualities beyond the borders.
These are the statements of the Italian trio on the eve.
Caterina Don, 24 years old from Pinerolo, registered with Royal Park I Roveri: “Every golfer grows up dreaming of playing at Augusta. In this context everything is special. Only the fact that in the final round spectators are not allowed to use smartphones keeps everyone in the moment without distractions”.
Francesca Fiorellini, 19, from Rome, representative of the Olgiata Golf Club: “Augusta is unparalleled. It is the temple of golf. It is an honor to be part of this tournament again. Every moment must be lived intensely as a unique experience that all golfers would like to try at least once in their lives”.
Carolina Melgrati, 22, from Monza, member of the Golf Club Milano: “Augusta National is a perfect course, simply fantastic. Here we feel like pros for the attention to every detail and the media impact. I can’t wait to get on the course and I am very happy to have my father with me as a caddie”.
Caterina Don is participating for the third time after those of 2019 and 2021 as Carolina Melgrati (2022, 2023), while Francesca Fiorellini is participating for the second time in a row. The best result is the fourth place obtained by Benedetta Moresco in 2022 and Don has the second with the 12th place in 2019.
