(KRON) — A suspect in connection to a large organized retail theft ring in the Bay Area was arrested, the California Highway Patrol announced Tuesday. The investigation, which was launched in July 2024, discovered that various businesses across the Bay Area were being targeted.
The stolen merchandise recovered was valued at a total of more than $779,000, according to CHP. The investigation led to the discovery of a fencing operation based in Oakland. CHP did not specify which stories the merchandise was stolen from.
Photos of the stolen merchandise that was recovered by CHP can be viewed below.
Two weeks ago on Feb. 27, a retail crime task force executed a search warrant at an Oakland residence and two search facilities — the second search in six months, CHP said. That’s where authorities found the stolen merchandise and later recovered the items.
A 41-year-old Oakland woman was arrested in connection to the retail theft. She was booked into the Alameda County Jail on charges of organized retail crime, possession of stolen property, and conspiracy to commit a crime.
The Alameda County District Attorney’s Office formally filed charges against the Oakland woman on March 3, CHP said. “This is a great example of law enforcement working in collaboration,” said Alameda County District Attorney Ursula Jones Dickson. “We now focus on prosecuting those allegedly responsible to ensure justice is served.”
