Out with the Old (Trafford)
Manchester United fans have backed the club’s plan to move on from Old Trafford and build a brand-new stadium.
Owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s idea to knock down Old Trafford and create a £2billion ‘Wembley of the North’ was revealed earlier this year.
And last month, plans were ramped up surrounding the potential 100,000-seater ground.
Plans could potentially be submitted by the end of 2024 and some reports claim that work could even start in early 2025.
Man United have now revealed results of a consultation based on their stadium plans, with more than 50,000 fans taking part.
The club released an update today, which read: “The initial findings from the first phase of fan consultation on the future of Old Trafford has revealed that more than 90 per cent of supporters are positive about the ambition to deliver a world-class stadium at the heart of a regenerated stadium district.
“The results showed that a new-build stadium at Old Trafford is the preference for the majority of fans who responded – with 52 per cent declaring support for that option.
“Redevelopment of the existing stadium was preferred by 31 per cent of fans, with a further 17 per cent declaring themselves unsure.
“The data showed the strongest support for a new-build stadium to be among current season ticket holders, with the desire for a new stadium increasing with the age of a season ticket holder. Younger fans lean more towards redeveloping Old Trafford.
“The results will help the club understand the wishes of fans as feasibility work continues on the options for Old Trafford. Preserving history and heritage, increasing ticket availability, and enhancing the atmosphere were among the priorities expressed by fans in the survey.”
