The TV made a huge deal about home field advantage for LSU and how cool the stadium in Baton Rouge is at night. And, when Alabama got a false start on the first play, you’d have thought the Tide had no chance in suuuuchhh a hostile environment.
A TD on the first drive, though, and the crowd got a little quieter. Add in two more Alabama TDs, an LSU sack-fumble, and only two field goals from the Tigers, and Death Valley went deathly quiet.
Alabama’s offense went full 2008, relying on the run game, RB angle routes, screens, and QB runs in the rain to keep the ball moving. Jalen Milroe looked significantly faster and much more decisive than he has in weeks, so the bye week seems to have done him a lot of good. Similarly, RB Justice Haynes really showed some old-school power a few times to convert 1st downs and get a TD that he had no right making.
Alabama also came within inches of landing two deep shot touchdowns to Ryan Williams and Emmanuel Henderson. Both receivers had a step on the defender and just barely couldn’t come down with the TD.
Defensively, the Tide was excellent. LSU had one good run play, but the Alabama defense buckled up afterwards and held them to a FG. Other than that, Nussemeier completed a couple of nice passes, but nothing much came from them.
The real question will be if the Tide can continue the general dominance in the 2nd half. They weren’t able to do it vs. Georgia – so now is the coaching staff’s chance to prove they have grown since then in terms of adjusting to their opponent’s adjustments.
Roll Tide!
