IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai’i defender Laule’a Ah Mook Sang earned the final Big West Freshman of the Week recognition of the season Friday after helping lead the Rainbow Wahine to a shutout of Long Beach State in the regular season finale.
Ah Mook Sang played all 90 minutes on a UH back line that kept The Beach off the board in a 1-0 victory to close the regular season. The Rainbow Wahine outside back helped the ‘Bows post their sixth shutout of the season while holding an opponent scoreless in the second half for the eighth time in the last nine matches.
The Honolulu native and graduate of Punahou School made her second start of the season and played the entire match for the first time in her collegiate career. On the season, the true freshman has totaled 555 minutes in 17 matches with a goal scored and two shot attempts.
The Rainbow Wahine are the only team in the conference this year to have multiple players earn freshman of the week honors, as Ah Mook Sang joins five-time recipient Nalani Damacion in claiming the weekly honor. A UH player has won the award following six of the 12 weeks this season and it marks the first time that Hawai’i has had multiple players earn Big West Freshman of the Week honors in a season.
