The New York Yankees’ “torpedo bat” craze reached a crescendo over the weekend. Over the course of their three-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers, the Yankees exploded for 15 home runs.
During Saturday’s game, Michael Kay pointed out on the YES Network broadcast that Jazz Chisholm was using an Anthony Volpe model bat that moved the center of weight slightly closer to the bat’s center.
Michael Kay explains that the Yankees made new bats “where they moved a lot of the wood into the label so the harder part of the bat is going to strike the ball.”

The so-called “torpedo bats” are nothing new — the Chicago Cubs were using them in 2024, Yankees center fielder Cody Bellinger told MLB.com. Bellinger was traded by the Cubs to the Yankees in December.

“We were all kind of looking at this bat, and we were like, ‘Hmm, what is this thing?'” Bellinger told Bryan Hoch. “It’s so unique. I think there has been some more success with it and maybe some more advancements [since last year].”
If nothing else, there has been more buzz.
