DENVER (KDVR) — Actor Val Kilmer, known for his diverse roles that included Batman and rockstar Jim Morrison of The Doors, died Tuesday at the age of 65, his daughter told The New York Times.
The Times reported that his daughter, Mercedes, said her father died of pneumonia. Kilmer was diagnosed with throat cancer in 2014, but recovered, according to his daughter.
Kilmer was born in Los Angeles on the last day of 1959. He became the youngest person to be accepted into the Julliard School’s Drama Division.
In the 1980s, Kilmer appeared in several comedy films before landing a defining role as “Maverick’s” arch-nemesis “Ice Man” in the mega-hit “Top Gun.”
In the 1990s, he played the starring role of Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s movie about the 60’s rock band “The Doors” and as Batman in 1995’s “Batman Forever.”
In 2022, Kilmer reprised his role as ‘Ice Man’ in the “Top Gun” sequel, “Maverick.” Due to his throat cancer, Kilmer’s character speaks with the help of AI.
