MADISON, Ala. (WHNT) — Alabama’s Justin Lebron plays hero in the ninth inning hitting the walk off single to secure the No. 12 Crimson Tide win 4-3 over the UNA Lions.
The Crimson Tide took a 2-0 lead at the bottom of four, but the Lions managed to tie it up thanks to a two-run blast by UNA’s Nash Rippem.
Alabama took advantaged on the base path, scoring on an error in the seventh, but UNA answered right back, tying the game once again.
Bottom of the ninth 3-3 ballgame, Alabama’s Will Plattner draws the lead off walk putting the winning run on the bases.
Plattner got into scoring position off a squeeze bunt, then Justin Lebron strutted to the plate with the game on the line.
Lebron labored at the plate, fouling off countless pitches, but once he got what he wanted, that was game.
“”Honestly, I was just waiting for something close to the zone that I could do damage on. I mean, really, I just kept falling off pitches that I didn’t think I could do anything with until I got something I could see,” said Alabama sophomore infielder Justin Lebron.
“”The only doubt was whether they were going to pitch to him or not, you know, and you could just see the way that it was going. I mean, that guy gave us some fits. It’s a different look. And you’re just kind of a matter of time. If they left something on the plate, he’s going to finish it. And that’s what he did,” said Crimson Tide baseball head coach Rob Vaugn.
Aeden Finateri made his second start for Alabama on Tuesday.
He pitched two scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out three lions.
Coulson Buchanan also struck out five of the seven batters he faced in his two shutout innings.
No. 12 Alabama picks up a big midweek win as they head back to Tuscaloosa to gear up for three-game series against No.9 Oklahoma.
