AUSTIN (KXAN) — Early Sunday morning, the Austin Police Department said it was at the scene of a homicide in north Austin.
According to police, the investigation was near the 11600 block of North Interstate 35 Proper—meaning on the highway.
During a briefing, police said officers responded to a high-priority call at approximately 3:46 a.m. on the interstate. APD said the Austin Fire Department was first to arrive on scene and found a crash involving two vehicles.
According to police, one person inside a vehicle was unconscious and had “apparent trauma to the body … not related to the crash.”
Life-saving measures were performed, according to APD, but the victim was pronounced dead at 4:14 a.m.
APD patrol officers, homicide detectives and Crime Scene Unit were at the scene.
APD said I-35 heading north, just south of Tech Ridge Boulevard, was closed and would remain closed for an extended time due to the investigation. Police asked people to avoid the area and seek alternate routes.
