LANCASTER, N.Y. (WIVB) — Lancaster sent 12 athletes to the New York state indoor track and field championships last weekend, the most of any school in Section VI.
The Legends were led by junior distance runner, Carson Zuba. He qualified for states in both the 3200 meter and 4×800 meter relay.
Zuba said he has earned five sectional titles so far in his career. The Lancaster coaching staff knew Zuba was special when he was just a freshman. Lancaster co-track and field head coach, Rich Skrabucha added that the junior has unique intangibles along the lines of the “it factor”.
“It’s hard to teach that,” said Lancaster co-track and field Head Coach Rich Skrabucha. “He listens very well. He has a little bit of an insider instinct. It’s a little bit an ingrained instinct that he can use.”
At the state championships, Zuba broke the school record in the 3200 meter with the time of 9:20.36. The junior finished 12th in the event. His 4×800 meter relay finished in 11th place.
