SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Teachers, students and parents are celebrating the completion of a major campus improvement project at Franklin Elementary School. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is sated for Wednesday.
The school, which is part of the San Diego Unified School District, has been undergoing renovations and modernizations to all classrooms.
This includes a state-of-the-art two-story classroom building. The new facility includes collaborative workspaces, a staff lounge, new student dining area, and a student food services kitchen.
Other noted improvements include enhanced campus-wide safety with new security cameras, fire alarm systems and a secure perimeter fence.
There’s also a learning garden with a shade canopy and a bioretention basin with landscaping, as well as renovated kindergarten and upper-grade playgrounds.
Funding for the improvements were made available through local school bond measures that were approved by San Diego voters.
