Mountain Vista quarterback Austyn Modrzewski was named Gatorade Colorado Football Player of the Year for the second year in a row on Friday morning.
Modrzewski became the first Mountain Vista player to win the award for football last year, then followed that up with a record-breaking season this fall.
The 6-foot-4, 190-pound senior passed for 3,407 yards and 57 touchdowns, leading the Golden Eagles (11-1) to the Class 5A state quarterfinals. He finished his prep career with the state records for passing yards (11,911) and touchdown passes (147).
“I really think Austyn is the best quarterback ever to come out of Colorado,” Valor Christian coach Bret McGatlin said in a news release announcing the selection. “Not only can he beat you through the air, but he can use his legs and extend plays. They are virtually unstoppable with Austyn on the field.”
Modrzewski, who sports a 3.48 GPA and volunteers in his community, is committed to playing at South Dakota next year.
