- Facility will use liquid cooling and sustainable designs for AI needs
- It’ll be developed into one of the largest data center campuses in APAC
NTT Data, a global innovator in business and technology services, announced its proposed acquisition of a 68.5-acre land parcel in Gelang Patah, Johor Bahru.
According to a statement from the company, the site will be developed into one of the largest data center campuses in the APAC region, featuring six dedicated buildings with a total IT load capacity of approximately 290 megawatts (MW). The first building, with an initial capacity of 48 MW, is expected to launch in April 2027.
“With APAC emerging as one of the fastest-growing markets for IT and data centers, this strategic land acquisition in Malaysia underscores our commitment to regional expansion,” said Doug Adams, CEO and President of Global Data Centers, NTT Data. “Johor Bahru is becoming an increasingly important economic zone due to its proximity to Singapore.”
Yasuo Suzuki, Executive Vice President and Managing Director for Japan and APAC at Global Data Centers, NTT Data, added, “Expanding in Gelang Patah strengthens Malaysia’s digital infrastructure, supports APAC economic growth, fosters innovation, and creates new job opportunities.”
NTT Data currently operates six facilities in Cyberjaya, near Kuala Lumpur, with a combined IT load capacity of 20 MW. The new Johor Bahru project aims to further enhance Malaysia’s digital infrastructure while leveraging NTT Data’s regional partnerships.
The facility will incorporate advanced technologies such as direct liquid cooling to support the growing demand for AI applications and will feature energy-efficient, sustainable designs, the company stated.
