Carlsbad’s assistant city manager has been promoted, the city announced Wednesday.
Geoff Patnoe will become the new city manager on Dec. 19, succeeding Scott Chadwick, who last month was named the new president and CEO of the Port of San Diego.
“We’ve seen Geoff in action and have been impressed by his strategic thinking and leadership,” Carlsbad Mayor Keith Blackburn said. “In Geoff, we get continuity for the organization while tapping into his legislative background and experience overseeing the prudent use of taxpayer resources.”
Patnoe joined Carlsbad in March 2020, as the COVID-19 pandemic began. He led efforts that reduced e-bike injury collisions by 18% in 2022, according to city documents.
Prior to joining the city, Patnoe worked for a decade as director of the San Diego County Office of Strategy & Intergovernmental Affairs.
“I am deeply honored to be entrusted with the role of city manager and to continue to serve this incredible community,” he said. “We have a great team in place, and together we will work hard every day to deliver an exceptional level of service to our residents and businesses.”
Patnoe graduated from UC Davis. He and his wife, Christine, live in Rancho Peñasquitos and have two daughters.
