The two men inside a stolen vehicle that led police on a high-speed chase throughout Los Angeles have been identified and charged with multiple crimes.
Simi Valley Police Department officials confirmed that an officer located a stolen vehicle somewhere in the city around 7:45 p.m. Friday; the exact location was not disclosed.
Authorities also stated that the officer initially began following the vehicle because they thought the driver was operating it under the influence. They later confirmed that the vehicle was stolen out of San Diego.
“The vehicle entered the 118 Freeway towards Los Angeles and fled at speeds of over 100 miles per hour,” Simi Valley police said.
After crossing into L.A., an LAPD airship joined the pursuit and tracked the stolen car into West Hollywood while SVPD officers stopped pursuing.
The suspects eventually made their way to the 101 Freeway and exited in Silver Lake around 8 p.m., according to preliminary information. About 15 minutes later, both occupants got out and fled in different directions.
One of the suspects, said to be the passenger in the vehicle, was detained almost immediately, police said. The second suspect, the driver of the vehicle, was observed from Sky5 throwing what appeared to be a cell phone over a fence and into a backyard.
They were later detained following a brief search in the area of Edgemont Street and Melrose Avenue in East Hollywood, officials said. Initial reports indicated that the driver was found hiding in a dumpster, but that information was not confirmed by police.
In an update issued shortly before midnight Saturday, the Simi Valley Police Department identified the driver as 20-year-old Ronnie Ray Moore of Corona and the passenger as 21-year-old Jason Yanez Guzman of San Diego.
“They were both arrested for various charges including, but not limited to, reckless driving, felony evading and driving a stolen vehicle,” SVPD said.
No injuries to officers, innocent bystanders or the suspects were reported.
