THORNTON, Colo. (KDVR) — Several thieves broke into a Thornton jewelry store, stealing a significant amount of gold.
Around 4:30 a.m. on Friday, the Thornton Police Department said the Joyeria El Ruby store, near Washington and 88th Avenue, was burglarized. Surveillance video showed two vehicles parked in front of the business, as three suspects used a crowbar to break into two doors.
“There was damage to the doors. They broke into the store, stole… we don’t have an amount just yet but it’s significant in gold,” said owner Xitlali Munoz. “Two of them ran to the back, one hopped over the display and they had a couple of minutes, it was all pretty fast.”
After taking a large amount of gold jewelry, officers said the suspects fled in their vehicles, which were reported stolen prior to this incident. At least one additional suspect is believed to have remained in the vehicle during the burglary.
“It’s very sad to see all of the hard work, day in and day out, and just see it stripped away from you in a couple of minutes, it’s really sad,” said Munoz. “We haven’t had anything happen to this in the past 10 years that we’ve been here. But, now we definitely feel insecure. We’re not as comfortable as we were before.”
Joyeria El Ruby is now restocking their supply, as the damage is all fixed from the burglary.
“We’re just asking that the community can help us identify these men so we can have justice,” said Munoz.
