SUMMERVILLE — A woman is facing charges after allegedly stealing a van from a construction site, crashing it into a cyclist and two motorcyclists, and fleeing the scene.
Summerville police officers responded to a reported collision on South Pointe Boulevard just before 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 23. They discovered an unoccupied van in a ditch, which they later learned was stolen from a nearby construction site, according to a Nov. 27 statement.
A cyclist who had been hit sustained severe injuries and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to police spokesperson Capt. Chris Hirsch. Two people riding motorcycles sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Brittany Lawson, 35, fled the scene on foot, but police officers arrested her without incident.
She was booked into the Berkeley County jail on Nov. 23 and charged with grand larceny, two counts of hit-and-run, hit-and-run with great bodily injury, and felony DUI, Hirsch said.
The investigation is ongoing. Officers ask anyone with information to contact the Summerville Police Department at 843-875-1650.
