DENVER (KDVR) — On Sunday night, a family in Denver learned their truck had been used to steal a golf cart from a home just six miles north of them.
The Torres family said their truck was stolen on Nov. 15 in the early morning hours.
“Our dad was getting up… He was going really early to work in the morning,” said Stephanie Torres.
She said he had just gotten home late Thursday night and was up around 4 a.m. the next day.
“In that little window, span, it was gone,” Stephanie said.
She said it was a shock, especially since everything their father had for work was inside it.
“He has his work, his snow gear, his tools, just everything,” Stephanie’s sister Melina said.
The Torres family said the truck is an important part of their lives. Not only does it get their father to and from work, but it also helps the family get to their jobs as well, especially when it snows.
“We have one more car, but we have to really kind of share that and we have to kind of take turns, you know, who’s going to take my dad to work, you know, he has to be there every day,” Stephanie said.
They called a family friend, Vincent Vigil, who lives in the same apartment complex and told them to file a police report.
Then, a little more than a week later, Vigil said he was watching FOX31 when he saw a familiar sight. On Sunday, a family living near Central Park sent a video to FOX31 of their red golf cart getting stolen. The suspect then towed the golf cart away in a white truck.
“We saw it and we say, ‘That’s the truck’,” Vigil said.
Stephanie said it was hard to believe since they had been posting the truck everywhere on social media to see if anyone had seen it.
“It’s an unfortunate situation that we had found out that our truck was missing this way, and like, where it is exactly because we’ve been posting it all over,” she said.
Even more shocking, they noticed the photos that had fallen out of the truck when the suspect had gotten out of the vehicle.
“That’s us from like 10, 11 years ago,” Stephanie said. “He always kept it in his visor. He said that it was his motivation to keep going every day when he works long hours.”
Their temporary joy at seeing the truck took a turn when they saw the bed full of odds and ends, and what it was being used for.
“It’s really sad that, you know, he had taken from one person and is using that same truck to go take from more people,” Stephanie said.
The Denver Police Department confirmed to FOX31 that there is a report for the vehicle, and they do not have any new updates. Anyone with information is asked to contact them or the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867.
