METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — You’re invited to a party at the library.
In Metairie at the East Bank Regional Library
The party is for a big birthday, 75 years for the Jefferson Parish Library.
WGNO Good Morning New Orleans features reporter Bill Wood has your invitation.
In November 1949, Jefferson Parish Library cracked open its first book.
“We have a long legacy of serving our constituents and we’ve had over 2 million uses of the library this year alone,” said Jessica the librarian.
The library is sealing a time capsule that will be dug up in 2099.
17 branches of the library all contributed an item to represent their staff or location. In it is a bust of Thomas Jefferson, from Westwego are letters and menus from the town and even a painted oyster shell from the Grand Isle branch.
It’s Saturday, Nov. 9 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and there will be a book sale and second line.
