ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – Officials have opened up the application process to replace the outgoing St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Wesley Bell.
This comes after Bell claimed victory in the election for Missouri District 1, a St. Louis-area Congress seat within the U.S. House of Representatives. Bell will take over for incumbent Cori Bush in January as a Democratic representative.
Before his Congress run, Bell has spent the last six years as St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney. As he prepares to take on a new political office, St. Louis County is looking for a candidate to serve two year remaining on Bell’s term for county prosecuting attorney.
According to the St. Louis County charter, the County Executive is responsible for filling the vacancy. Sam Page has opened up applications with the intent to select an appointee to serve the rest of Bell’s remaining term, which runs through the end of 2026.
Voters will then have an opportunity to vote on candidates for the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney in the November 2026 midterm election.
To be eligible, the person selected must be:
- A member of the same political party as the previous occupant. Bell is a
Democrat. - A licensed practicing attorney in Missouri for at least five years and resident of the
