WALES — Voters in Sabattus, Wales and Litchfield have passed a referendum on the fiscal year 2025 school budget for Regional School Unit 4.
It was the fourth vote on the budget this year which was revised down to $22.63 million from the original amount of $23.38 million, with a total of 2,450 yes votes and 2,246 no votes.
A steady stream of voters cast their ballots in Wales Tuesday. The town extended voting hours from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. to accommodate local residents. Town clerk Sharon Sigel said 40 people voted between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. with 20 people registering to vote by 10 :30 a.m. Christopher Wheelock/Sun Journal
The tally of the votes reported by each town is as follows:
Litchfield: 854, yes; 899, no.
Sabattus: 1,147, yes; 928, no.
Wales: 449, yes; 414, no.
The original FY25 budget of $23.38 million was voted down June 11, the second budget of $22.71 million was voted down July 30, and the third budget of $22.67 million was voted down Sept. 24. The latter lost by 19 votes.
The $22.63 million budget represents an increase of $1.05 million, or 4.91%, over the approved FY24 budget.
