BATON ROUGE, La. (KLFY) — Rep. Clay Higgins (R-Lafayette) has easily won re-election in Louisiana’s 3rd Congressional District.
The district covers the southwestern and south central portion of the state, ranging from the Texas border to the Atchafalaya River.
Higgins gained an overwhelming majority of voters in the four-person race to avoid a runoff and win a fifth term in office.
Higgins (71%) defeated fellow Republican “Xan” John (4%) and Democrats Priscilla Gonzalez (19%) and Sadi Summerlin (7%), according to unofficial results released by the Louisiana Secretary of State.
Unofficial voter turnout was 63.9%, officials said.
