Portions of leeward Big Island are under a flood advisory until 10 p.m. as heavy rainfall moves over, causing flooding on roads and in poor drainage areas and streams.
National Weather Service radar indicated at 6:43 p.m. rain falling at about 1 inch an hour over sections of West Hawaiʻi, with the heaviest rain falling in and around Kailua-Kona.
Some locations that will experience flooding include Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Hōnaunau, Kealakekua, Kainaliu, Honalo, Kahaluʻu-Keauhou, Hōlualoa, Kalaoa, Pōhakuloa Training Area, Puʻuanahulu, Ocean View, Miloliʻi, Kona International Airport, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes Park Kahuku Unit and Waikōloa Beach.
The public is advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas prone to flooding.
