HONOLULU — Senior Catherine Belyakov claimed Big West Athlete of the Week honors after her outstanding weekend at the USC Invitational in Los Angeles, Calif.
The transfer from Duke made an immediate impact with the Rainbow Wahine, earning multiple Top-10 times in program history. Belyakov posted the fourth-fastest time and finished in second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:17.97, and swam the sixth fastest time in the 200 IM with a mark of 2:00.78 finishing in third.
Belyakov also earned UH’s first victory in individual competition this season, winning the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 1:02.17. In total, Belyakov earned top-three finishes in four individual events this past weekend.
Belyakov also helped the Rainbow Wahine to top-three finishes in multiple medley relays. The ‘Bows finished second in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:42.42 with Belyakov swimming the final leg (100 freestyle), posting a time of 49.77. On the second day Belyakov swam in the second leg of the 200 medley relay, posting a split of 28.63 (50 breastsroke) to help the ‘Bows to a third place finish.
