An in-custody death is being investigated after a 26-year-old man with apparent self-inflicted injuries in Oceanside did not survive after transport to a hospital, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The Oceanside Fire Department and Oceanside Police Department followed up on the injury report at an apartment in the 1400 block of Division Street at 4:00 a.m. Tuesday.
First responders treated the man, who had multiple sharp force wounds to his neck and chest, and a knife was found nearby, police said.
While being transported to the hospital, the man struggled with medics and a police officer, leading to the use of soft restraints. Despite treatment upon arrival at the hospital, the man did not survive his injuries, according to SDPD.
The death is being investigated as an in-custody incident due to the use of force during transport, with the San Diego Police Homicide Unit leading the investigation.
The decedent’s identity has not been released pending family notification.
