What stuck with Hagge most was how nonchalant Little was when talking about taking human life. During their seven-hour-long conversation, Little would weave from talking about watching college football or eating hot dogs in St. Louis to the dozens of women he killed and referred to as “his babies,” Hagge said.
“It jogs you back to reality quick that this isn’t a normal person,” Hagge said. “It was the oddest interview I’ve ever done.”
As Little began telling Hagge what he remembered about the woman he killed in the Charleston area, he touched Hagge’s knee with his hand — another display of control. Little’s story went like this:
He picked up food and a six-pack of beer before spending the night in a West Ashley hotel. The next morning, he asked some truck drivers where to find sex workers and was pointed towards the North Charleston Navy base.
As he was driving the area that afternoon, he picked up a girl named Jackie. They drank together and she invited him to eat shrimp and grits for dinner. They ate dinner, played games and talked.
“I said, ‘Well, did you kill Jackie?'” Hagge recalled. “And he said, ‘No, I didn’t have time.'”
After she left for work, he met a woman at a North Charleston bar. The two left together, but she eventually got nervous and jumped out of his car.
“He laughed when he told the story,” Hagge said. While Little couldn’t see where the woman was running, he said he heard the pitter patter of her feet as she retreated.
Little returned to the same bar, where he found her again and convinced her to leave with him again. After having sex with her, he strangled her to death.
“Yeah, I killed her,” Little told Hagge nonchalantly.
Hagge was never able to solve the case. The woman remained unidentified until last week when the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office announced it attributed skeletal remains found in the 1970s to one of Little’s victims. She was identified as 51-year-old Leola Etta Bryant.
