The University of Hawai’i men’s golf team returns to Alister MacKenzie Invitational Oct. 7-8 at the Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. The Rainbow Warriors were a regular participant for many years competing nine times since 2005.
UH will make its first appearance at the MacKenzie Invitational since 2019 when it finished in 16th place. Hosted by California, the field includes 16 teams, including Big West foes Cal Poly, UC Davis, and UC Santa Barbara.
Meadow Club is a par-71 course played at 6,734 yards. In addition to UH, Cal, and the Big West schools, this year’s field also includes Fresno State, Minnesota, Nevada, Pacific, Saint Mary’s, San Diego, San Jose State, Santa Clara, South Dakota State, and UTEP.
Participants will play a total of 54 holes, 36 on Monday and 18 on Tuesday. Monday’s round begins with an 8:00 a.m. PT shotgun start and the Rainbow Warriors will be paired with Cal Poly, South Dakota State and a group of individuals.
Competing for the Rainbow Warriors are James Whitworth, Josh Hayashida, Dane Watanabe, Tyler Ogawa, and Garrett Takeuchi. All five were among the group who participated in the season-opening Pan Pacific Super League Tournament in Japan. Ogawa was UH’s top finisher at 226 and a tie for 13th place.
