BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Starpoint Central School District superintendent Sean Croft pleaded not guilty to DWI in West Seneca Town Court on Tuesday.
Prosecutors said that Croft was driving while intoxicated when he struck a tree on Nina Terrace near the intersection of East and West Road on the afternoon of Aug. 31. He was arrested after he alleged failed field sobriety tests, and then brought to the West Seneca Police station and allegedly refused the administration of a breath test to determine his BAC percentage.
Witnesses said Croft claimed the accident happened due to him swerving to avoid hitting a squirrel.
Croft was charged with DWI, along with two other traffic infractions.
Croft was placed on leave from his position as superintendent following his arrest. He is not listed on the district’s website as of Wednesday morning. Maureen Braundscheidel is currently serving as acting superintendent.
