Will Ospreay’s signing AEW has seen him put on some of the very best matches in the promotion this year. There was never any doubt that the current AEW International Champion was going to do a phenomenal job. He is one of the best professional wrestlers in the world today, and the argument can be made that he is the best right now. Nonetheless, Ospreay has been killing it with his in-ring performance as of recently. He is consistent, and it is guaranteed that he will put on a clinic when he steps into the ring. However, AEW might be doing too much in over-exposing Ospreay recently.

On the most recent episode of Dynamite, Ospreay and Kyle Fletcher, his fellow former United Empire stablemate, won a tag team gauntlet match to earn a shot at the AEW World Tag Team Championships. They will be facing The Young Bucks in the future for the titles. Before getting any further, there is absolutely no doubt that a match between Ospreay and Fletcher against The Young Bucks will be phenomenal. They are all extremely talented in-ring competitors and have been involved in great things in AEW. But there is certainly some fatigue in Ospreay getting yet another title match.
Ospreay just won the AEW International Championship back from MJF at All In. It was a stellar match and a great follow-up to their classic Dynamite match that went an hour long. In addition, Ospreay also challenged Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Title while he was AEW International Champion. That was also another great match that benefited both competitors involved. But with his victory this past week, this is the third separate Championship that Ospreay will be challenging for since his official AEW debut. It feels like too much too quickly.
AEW Needs To Better Utilize Their Roster
There Are Other Names Who Need The Tag Team Spot More In AEW
- Kyle Fletcher is a member of The Don Callis Family.
- AEW has a very deep roster of tag teams.
- There are more tag teams who could use the exposure.
One of the biggest things about AEW is the fact that their roster is so huge. This can be both a benefit and a disadvantage. On one hand, AEW has a plethora of talent. In the tag team division specifically, there are teams such as La Faccion Ingobernable, Private Party, The House of Black, The Acclaimed, The Lucha Bros, and more. On the other hand, AEW has a tendency to relegate putting a lot of talent on the back burner for months at a time. It is something that can truly hurt the momentum of lots of talent.
While there is also the case of Fletcher getting some momentum off the ground as well, he is already part of a group that has other members. He is in the Don Callis Family. Namely, Fletcher could be teaming with Konosuke Takeshita. Takeshita has picked up some big victories. Dethroning The Young Bucks could have been a big boost for The Don Callis Family, especially since Ospreay is no longer affiliated with the group. Unless this is to step up Ospreay and Fletcher in a feud, then it was a questionable call for this win.
AEW Needs To Avoid Fatigue With Will Ospreay
Will Ospreay Needs To Focus On The Gold He Has Now
- The Young Bucks have had a boring title reign.
- Ospreay needs to focus on maintaining the prestige of the AEW International Title.
- AEW is doing too much too soon with Will Ospreay.
Ospreay is already a champion in AEW. And while there is nothing wrong with a champion challenging for another title, there is a proper time and place for it. Ospreay does not need another title match so soon after winning the AEW International Championship, especially when there are so many on the roster who would be in better need of that opportunity. The Young Bucks have had three title defenses in nearly six months, and while the reign is certainly stale, there are far more teams that would benefit from dethroning the EVPs of their AEW World Tag Team Championships.
Depending on how big a name is, sometimes it only makes sense to insert them into the main event picture right away. And Ospreay is certainly a main event worthy talent. He is beyond talented and puts on consistent match of the night contenders, but Ospreay has been all over the match card so far. It would be far more beneficial to see him continue to build up the AEW International Championship, adding to its prestige and the momentum that title has in the aftermath of his classic feud for the title with MJF.
Now, this by no means is to say that Ospreay has been hurt in AEW. Actually, quite the opposite. He has been involved in feuds that benefit him and the opponent that he is facing, but too much exposure in so many different aspects of the men’s division could lead to fatigue for fans. Especially with a teased feud with Ricochet, AEW could be doing too much with Ospreay.
